Our fully automatic Reverse Osmosis systems

Why Reverse Osmosis?

Reverse Osmosis systems are used to filter salts, together with heavy metals and infections, from water, for example. This makes it possible to filter any type of water to any other desired kind of water. Depending on the type of water to be treated and the customer’s wishes, we design a system with the right type of pre-treatment and the right membrane type.

Jan Mienis, our company’s founder, discovered over fifty years ago how Reverse Osmosis can run stable on well water. Today, more companies are able to do this, but our system continues to differentiate itself from the competition in key areas.

Fully automatic Reverse Osmosis

A few years ago we developed a semi-automatic Reverse Osmosis system, particularly for the challenging water flows we encountered abroad. This system already had a cleaning module (CIP) as a result of which the entire cleaning process operated automatically. Only the chemicals still had to be added by hand. We have now automated this last step as well, as a result of which the system is able to completely maintain itself.

Most competing systems are far less advanced and require users to keep them in production by cleaning these systems manually. To prevent damaging the membranes, this process must be carried out very carefully. Furthermore, this process must be carried out with great regularity, particularly when challenging water flows are involved. That is exactly why our automatic Reverse Osmosis system is such a blessing. The only thing you need to do is replenish the chemicals and calibrate a pH sensor; the system does the rest. This helps to save you a great deal of time and also prevents the system from becoming damaged.

The Reverse Osmosis process

Type of water and water analysis

With the right pre-treatment, Reverse Osmosis can handle any kind of water. Surface water requires elaborate pre-treatment, for example with Ultrafiltration. This is necessary to even out fluctuations in the water’s quality.

If Reverse Osmosis is to be applied to a source, it is very important to obtain a proper water analysis and to gain knowledge about the soil layers around the source. In addition, we also check out how the well is sealed.

Pre-treatment

The pre-treatment for the systems used in the Netherlands is reasonably simple, because a cartridge filter is often sufficient. Abroad we generally use a multimedia filter or a disc filter for pre-filtration and place the cartridge filters after this. If the well water cannot be routed directly to the system, we first collect it into a silo. This can cause organic contamination, which may result in the need for a multimedia filter dosed with a flocculant/coagulant. However, only Ultrafiltration provides for perfect pre-filtration. This process extracts virtually all of the contaminants from the water and with special membranes, a part of the salts can also be removed.

Types of Reverse Osmosis membranes

The right type of membrane is selected on the basis of the water analysis, pre-treatment and the desired water quality. Thereafter, an assessment is conducted to determine the recovery that can be achieved by dosing an anti-scalant.
